SoaP!

It's a lovely lazy weekend for me... lots of sleep and surfin. :P I don't know what made me look up Snakes on a Plane (SoaP), that notoriously-titled movie starring Samuel L Jackson.

The actor famously accepted the lead role in SoaP on the strength of the title alone, and demanded that the (working) title be retained when the studio tried to change it to the pretty boring Pacific Air Flight 121.

In June this year, Jackson said, while presenting the award for best movie at the MTV Movie Awards, "I'm here tonight to present the award everyone's been waiting for: best movie. Now, this award holds a special place in my heart because next year I'll be winning it for Snakes on a Plane. Now I know, I know that sounds cocky, but I don't give a damn. I am guaranteeing that Snakes on a Plane will win best movie next year. Does not matter what else is coming out. The New James Bond... no snakes in that! Ocean's 13... where my snakes at? Shrek the Third... green, but not a snake. No movie shall triumph over Snakes on a Plane. Unless I happen to feel like making a movie called Mo' Motha-fuckin' Snakes on Mo' Motha-fuckin' Planes."

Here's some linky goodness I just had to share:

SoaP on Wikipedia
- To read what all the fuss is about, go to the History and Internet sections.

Snakes who Missed the Plane!
- Grammatically flawed but hilarious parodies of the movie poster - ok maybe only hysterically funny to people with a warped sense of humour like moi :P

All Your Snakes Are Belong To Us (video)
- SoaP + All Your Base = brain explosion 0_0

SoaP on CNN (video)
- Teh SoaP internet frenzy has even been reported on CNN!

Snakes on a Blog
- This guy started this blog in January with a view of getting an invitation to the Hollywood premier of SoaP. And guess what? His blog (and others) generated so much pre-publicity for the movie that he got what he wanted!

In other news... in attempting to help a young friend discover what sort of course he should take up in college, I googled career quizzes for students, and after some doing finally found a free one from the Princeton Review. I can't resist quizzes, so I took it also. :P

Your interest colour is BLUE
People with blue Interests like job responsibilities and occupations that involve creative, humanistic, thoughtful, and quiet types of activities. Blue Interests include abstracting, theorizing, designing, writing, reflecting, and originating, which often lead to work in editing, teaching, composing, inventing, mediating, clergy, and writing.

Your usual style is YELLOW
People with yellow styles perform their job responsibilities in a manner that is orderly and planned to meet a known schedule. They prefer to work where things get done with a minimum of interpretation and unexpected change. People with a yellow style tend to be orderly, cautious, structured, loyal, systematic, solitary, methodical, and organized, and usually thrive in a research-oriented, predictable, established, controlled, measurable, orderly environment. You will want to choose a work environment or career path in which your style is welcomed and produces results.

I guess I'm in the right industry, huh? ;-p More or less. :P

Looking Inwards

I keep putting off blogging because I wanted to have time to sit down and write a proper post. So much for such intentions. Here I am again writing one off the cuff.

Work on my blue costume seems to have come to a standstill; I’ve covered the bra cups but can’t seem to decide on how to do the straps… I don’t feel like making another halter but I don’t like having the conventional straps cutting into my shoulders as well. Stretchy or non-stretch? Also, Nadya has taught me how to make the waistband for the skirt (which I anticipated would be the most complicated part), but I haven’t made the paper template pattern yet… uhg.

Work is as usual, piles of stuff to do as we have to start doing the promotions for the… err… epicurean event. I’m covering almost half the participating restaurants (including the ones in other states) and my editors and Ms Kawaii (new editorial assistant) are covering the other half. Strange distribution of duties, but what can I say, perhaps they like my writing. :P

GeekGod (or Clark Kent, as Allegra and I refer to him) is the new Canadian editor that set female tongues in all the other departments wagging before we at editorial even clapped eyes on him. A young ex-editor-in-chief from a tech publication background, he’s only been in this part of the world for a few weeks, with cruel-raced (Japanese, BJD reference) girlfriend in tow. He seems reasonable so far; we’ll see how working with him turns out.

Ms Kawaii is our sweet petite editorial assistant, hardworking, eager to learn and idealistic. I feel worldly and experienced when she asks for my advice on work, but I also feel so old. I used to be the youngest in offices. Oh well. :P

Anyway. On to something that makes me long terribly for next Friday: Shrike (F) is coming to visit… :):) I think this is the longest time we’ve been apart between visits. I can’t afford - either financially or in terms of time - to fly to Sweden again this year, I think… so this few weeks he’s here are going to be so precious. Hope that I won’t get any more things on my plate than there already are…. so we can be together more. Wish us luck…
